What it does, and what it does not
- It sorts the rows that are there. Text, numbers and dates each compare properly — a money column is not sorted as a string, so $9,375 does not come after $18,240.
- The sorted column says so through
aria-sort, which is how a screen reader announces the order. - Rows marked
data-staticstay put — an opening balance or a group header must not be sorted into the middle of the list. - It does not talk to a server. For thousands of rows you want the sort and the paging done in the database; this is the shape to keep, not the engine.
